Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business has released its MBA Class of 2027 profile. Out of 1,617 applicants, 248 ultimately enrolled in the MBA program this fall. The new cohort includes a greater number of women, underrepresented minorities, and first-generation college students compared to last year.
Anne Kilby, Associate Dean for MBA admissions, said in the school’s press release, “This class will bring new perspectives to our classrooms, enrich the Georgetown community, and make an impact both here in the nation’s capital and around the world.”
International students are again a critical part of McDonough’s incoming class, with 44 percent of students representing 40 countries outside the U.S. Women make up 31 percent of the class, up one percent over last year, and 23 percent, up from 14 percent last year, identify as underrepresented minorities. Thirteen percent of the new class are military veterans or service members. First-generation college students make up an impressive 21 percent of the class.

The McDonough MBA Class of 2027 arrived on campus with an average of five years of work experience. Seventeen percent hailed from a financial services background. Consulting professionals make up 11 percent of the class and government workers comprise 10 percent. The top five industries are rounded out with tech and media at eight percent, and education at seven percent.
Academic Background
McDonough MBA candidates are consistently high academic achievers. This year’s incoming students averaged a 3.3 GPA, unchanged over last year. A robust 30 percent of the incoming class majored in business as undergraduates. STEM majors make up the next largest group with 15 percent majoring in math or physical sciences and 12 percent in engineering. Humanities majors make up 12 percent as well while economics majors make up 11 percent.

The new cohort averaged 700 on the GMAT, a slight increase over last year. The Focus Edition of the GMAT was tallied separately, with the average score being 625. The average combined GRE score came in at 318, though there was a five percent decrease in the number of admits taking the exam to 39 percent.
