Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business has rolled out the MBA Class of 2028 profile. Out of 1,269 applicants, 197 ultimately enrolled in the MBA program this fall. The new cohort includes a higher percentage of women and underrepresented minorities compared to last year

International students held steady for McDonough’s incoming class, with 44 percent of students again representing a global community. They hailed from 33 countries outside the U.S. Women make up 33 percent of the class, up two percent over last year, and 41 percent, up from 23 percent last year, identify as underrepresented minorities. Seventeen percent of the new class are military veterans or service members. First-generation college students make up a 13 percent of the class.

The McDonough MBA Class of 2028 arrived on campus with an average of 5.3 years of work experience. Nineteen percent hailed from a financial services background and 14 percent from education. Consulting professionals make up nine percent of the class and government workers comprise 10 percent. The top industries are rounded out with tech and new media, and consumer goods and retail, at five percent each.

Academic Background

This year’s incoming MBA students averaged a 3.3 GPA during their undergraduate years, unchanged from the last few years. A high 36 percent of the incoming class majored in business as undergraduates. Engineering majors make up the next largest group with 18 percent. Government and international studies majors comprise 13 percent of the class, followed by 12 percent economics majors. Four percent each had studied humanities or computer sciences.

The new cohort averaged 713 on the GMAT (10th edition) and 626 on the GMAT (Focus). Thirty percent of candidates had opted to take the GRE and their average combined score came in at 315.
