The following Columbia MBA interview questions & report were submitted to Clear Admit by a Early Decision applicant who was admitted. Congratulations to them!

I met the interviewer-2015 graduate currently working for a big 3 consulting firm-at a café in an upscale hotel. The interviewer was very friendly and made sure that I felt comfortable throughout the interview. The interview was blind though the interviewer had my résumé, which I had sent prior, printed with his notes on my résumé (to probe in the interview).

The interview was mostly casual and after some ‘getting-to-know-you’ type of questions, the interviewer gave me some instructions such as the format of the interview, how the AdCom will use his interview report and when I can expect to hear back. Then, I was asked the following questions:

  • Walk me through your résumé.
  • Why MBA? Why CBS?
  • Why do you want to study finance/investment management?
  • Why did you choose your previous career?
  • Talk to me about your international assignment. What did you learn? What are some of your accomplishments had and challenges faced?
  • What do you want to do after CBS?
  • What does your family business do?
  • How will you get involved at CBS?
  • What clubs will you join? Why such clubs?
  • Where do you want to live? What do you want to do most at NYC?

The questions came our naturally and the interviewer wasn’t taking much notes whilst I was talking.
After the interview questions, he told me about his experiences at CBS and gave me some tips on classes and activities I should get involved in at CBS. Also, he told me about his current job at the big 3 consulting firm, the career transition from sales to consulting, as well as the local alumni network.

The interview lasted about an hour and the interviewer told me that he would submit his report the following day, which he did. I sent him a thank you note after the interview to which he replied.

I really enjoyed speaking to the interviewer and felt that he was an excellent ambassador of CBS who represented the community so well.

I received an acceptance call 9 working days after the interview report was submitted. It was the best news I heard in years.

I will be enrolling at CBS!
