The following UPenn / Wharton interview questions and report were submitted to Clear Admit by a Round 1 applicant. Good luck to them!

The interview was a 35 minute group-based discussion followed by a 10 minute 1:1 blind interview.

Why MBA?
Why now?
What excites you specifically about Wharton?
Did you have any prior experience with your particular TBD topic (location, industry etc)?
Is your target industry more NYC or LA based?
Did you have any experience with the location/city from your Team Based Discussion pitch?
How did you feel about your team based discussion?
What role did you play and did it feel natural to the role you usually play?
Any questions for me (had time for 2 quick questions)

I loved my interview experience. It was conversational, fun, and I felt like Wharton got a great picture of me as a candidate and also as a potential learning team member. Of course there were teammates who were overdoing it (robotic/canned answers, vying too heavily for air time) and those that clearly were underprepared (repeating others answers, completely vague pitches etc) – but in the end the evaluators notice those types of contributions and I’m sure it’s factored in.

I was surprised how quickly the 35 minutes pass. And I was surprised that a few people in my group committed some of the above faux pas (two of the members shut down suggestions multiple times out right).

My biggest takeaway is that Wharton practices what it preaches in terms of being student led and team based. The second years are so buttoned up and inspiring and they have a much better handle of who they’d want on their learning team (it felt much more grounded than my other AO and alumni based interviews).
