Why business school? Why now?
I had a quarter-life crisis after a volunteer trip to Kenya that catalyzed my long-term goal to harness my education toward making the world a better place, and pivoting my career towards the social sector. If I didn’t do it now, I never would.

Why Tuck? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
The application process with Tuck was by far the most positive and genuinely welcoming experience out of all the schools I applied to. It gave me a taste of Tuck’s extraordinary close-knit culture, and I knew I wanted to be part of it.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2020?
I am passionate about the importance of diversity of opinion and open-mindedness, especially in today’s socially siloed world and polarized political climate. I have worked multiple roles (scientist, teacher, and most recently brand manager) in multiple industries and lived in three countries prior to moving to the USA. I’d like to think this exposure to different cultures and lifestyles can help me to bring empathy and openness to challenging conversations both in and out of the classroom.

Fun fact that didn’t get included on your application?
I was once obsessed with Harry Potter and—despite believing that the Harry Potter movies are one of life’s greatest disappointments—I attended nearly every movie premiere in New Zealand.

Post-MBA career interests?
Consulting/general management for the social sector, sustainability.

Advice to current prospective applicants:
–One thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
If you are an admitted international student and are able to fly to visit campus beforehand, do it! I was not sure of travelling all the way to New Hampshire to attend Tuck’s Admitted Students Weekend but am now so glad that I did! It not only really helps solidify your decision and impression of the school, but also helps you make some really useful contacts and friends early on.

–One thing you would change or do differently?
Dedicate more time for introspection. This applies both to the application process and life in general. It is so easy to get caught up in the flurry of activity and to-do lists, but it is even more important – especially for your application essays – to be clear on what you want and why you are applying for b-school. Turn off the radio in the car, take off your headphones, and listen to your thoughts!

–Part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
To be honest, the letters of recommendation. I am lucky to have extremely supportive managers that I am close to, but all were unfamiliar with the application process for an elite MBA program and I felt really guilty about all the time they need to dedicate to my recommendations.

What is your initial impression of Tuck’s students/culture/community?
Outdoorsy! And extremely inspiring and accomplished. I am humbled to be part of this cohort.

One thing you have learned about Tuck that has surprised you?
The average age at matriculation. In Australia/Europe, the average age is much older so it’s exciting to be studying with others of a similar age to me.

Thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
Fall A! It has a notorious reputation of being a challenging rite of passage.

Thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Building new friendships, the holiday season (my first Halloween and white Christmas!), and learning about companies and industries that are changing the world for the better.
