I was intimated of a match with an alum in my area around 5 weeks after submitting my Kellogg application on the Round 2 deadline. I mailed the alum, and we fixed a slot to meet at his workplace.

Kellogg MBA Interview & Questions

When we met for the interview, it was a cordial experience. He started the interview off by easing me into things, asking about where I work and what I do. From this, we moved into the topic of my work and the company I work for. He asked how I like working there, and what I like/don’t like about it.

This was a good way to segue into my need/desire for an MBA, and why Kellogg. We discussed this topic for sometime, and he was very helpful in moving the discussion along and connecting some of my ambitions with his own experiences at the school.

He asked what was the ideal role I wanted post-MBA, and whether I wanted to remain in the US or move back home (I’m an international). If in the US, he asked which location, company, role I preferred. He commented on the feasibility of these goals, and asked some followup about why I did not want to come back home immediately.

Finally, we spent time discussing his time at Kellogg, what he learnt and how they have helped him in his career. We also discussed the effect of the Global Hub on the school and how different his experience was before it was built.

Conclusion

What stood out for me was how rational he was about describing the school. You could feel the passion for the school, but he also took the time to speak about other schools with similar offerings which could serve the ambitions I had. I felt that was really helpful because it developed trust and made me feel he had my best interests at heart. Overall, a warm friendly interview which has made me enthusiastic about Kellogg and the people there.
