UT Austin McCombs Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Second-Year Student / Zoom

The McCombs application submission and interview scheduling were a bit of a mess this year. When scheduling, you are able to pick a time slot. Within the time slot, you are shown your interview. After checking the LinkedIn, I selected an interviewer with a similar background to mine. When I opened the interview, a different Second Year interviewed me. This threw me off, but overall it was a good, conversational interview. It was scheduled for 45 minutes, but was made clear to me that the whole hour was booked if I had more questions (I got the feeling it was encouraged to go over 45 minutes).

Questions:
– Let me introduce myself…. Now tell me about yourself. (resume walkthrough)
– What are your short- and long-term goals?
– Should those not work out, what is your backup plan?
– Tell me about a time you’ve worked with someone of a different perspective, culture, etc. to yourself and what you learned?
– What do you plan to bring to the McCombs environment when you are in school AND afterwards?
– What do you do in your free time?
– What would you say is the weakest and strongest part of your application?

We finished this part at ~45 minutes and then I asked a couple questions and we spoke for another 10 minutes or so. Overall, it was conversational and comfortable and went very well.
