carey school of businessAge: 35
Hometown: Scottsdale, AZ (Although I grew up in Santa Rosa, California)
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Brigham Young University, Provo Utah (Bachelor of Arts in Communications – Advertising)
Pre-MBA Work Experience (role, company, years): I founded a women’s athleticwear company in 2015 and had a successful exit in 2020. Since selling my business I have been traveling with my family and doing some consulting for e-commerce brands.

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
In many ways, running a business exposed all the areas that need extra sharpening. I’ve decided to attend business school to sharpen those skills that were acquired as an entrepreneur, especially in areas of data analytics and data-driven decision-making. I am committed to be a lifelong learner, and I hope to use the experiences as ASU to help pave my path for what is next!

Why did you choose the ASU Carey School of Business? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
ASU is known for its commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is most likely in my future, and I know ASU will both prepare and support me in any new endeavor.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2025?
Entrepreneurship has taught me to lead boldly, think creatively, embrace innovation, and identify opportunities in challenging situations. I look forward to sharing this entrepreneurial mindset with my classmates and encouraging innovative thinking within our cohort.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I have three kids (ages 6, 8, and 9)! Between their various sports and activities, and being in school full time, I am very busy!

Post-MBA career interests:
While I don’t have a specific post-MBA career in mind at this moment, I am excited about the prospect of using my MBA experience to explore different industries and roles.

I am committed to using my time in the MBA program to enhance my skills in marketing, analytics, and product management. I believe that these skills will be valuable in a variety of industries and functions, and I’m excited to apply them to new challenges in my post-MBA career.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
During the admissions process, I was very transparent with the admissions committees about my role as a mother and the unique demands it brings. My advice to current prospective applicants, especially those with distinctive life experiences like parenthood, is to embrace your authenticity. Don’t hesitate to share your story and the challenges you’ve overcome. Your unique background can add depth and diversity to the incoming class, and admissions committees often appreciate candidates who bring a range of life experiences to the table.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
If I could make one change in my MBA application process, I would proactively seek out more opportunities to connect with alumni of the program and current students to learn more about their experiences. While I conducted some research and attended information sessions, I now realize the value in firsthand insights from those who have already embarked on this journey. What is your initial impression of the ASU Carey students/culture/community?
I have been very impressed with the diversity of ASU’s MBA program. It has been truly humbling to connect with and learn from so many talented and brilliant individuals from all corners of the globe.

What is one thing you have learned about ASU Carey that has surprised you?
One thing that has pleasantly surprised me about ASU Carey is the sheer abundance of clubs, activities, and networking opportunities available. There’s such a wide array of options that it’s almost overwhelming, but it’s a testament to the school’s commitment to providing a well-rounded and enriching experience for its students.

What is one thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
One thing I’m most anxious about in my first year is the statistics class. However, I’m determined to lean into this challenge and focus on learning as much as possible.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
One thing I’m most excited about in my first year is exploring all the different concentrations and figuring out which one aligns best with my career goals and passions.
