Laura Sagrera, Esade MBA Class of 2027

Age: 24
Hometown: Barcelona
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Ramon Llull University, International Relations
Pre-MBA Work Experience: Associate consultant at PwC in Barcelona, Spain (1 year); Allocation Analyst at Asics in Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2 years).

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
After gaining experience in consulting, retail, and entrepreneurship, I realized I wanted to build a career with more long-term impact, ideally by launching my own venture. While I had explored different environments, I also saw gaps in my technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial toolkit. I knew that an MBA would give me the structure, knowledge, and confidence to pursue this path. This felt like the right moment because I’ve reached a point where I believe that I have enough professional and personal experience to fully benefit from an MBA – but I’m also still early enough in my career to apply what I learn in a meaningful and long-term way.

Why did you choose Esade? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Esade stood out to me because of its entrepreneurial spirit, international community, and values-driven culture. I was looking for a school that combined academic rigor with a collaborative and creative environment, and that also encouraged students to think about impact beyond business. Being from Barcelona, Esade has always been close to me, but my decision was truly reinforced after exploring its unique focus on entrepreneurship and innovation, which align perfectly with my long-term goal of building my own venture. I felt confident that this was the right environment for me to thrive, both academically and personally, which is why I decided to apply only to Esade.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2027?
I bring a mix of consulting, corporate, and entrepreneurial experience at a relatively young age, which allows me to look at challenges from multiple angles. The combination of my diverse experiences, and my ambition to keep improving and achieving professional growth gives me both an analytical mindset and an entrepreneurial spirit. I believe I can contribute a creative and fresh perspective to the classroom dynamic, while also sharing the lessons I’ve learned about adapting quickly, taking initiative, and balancing structure with innovation.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I once received a second-place award in an Ironman 70.3 competition, but the funny part is that it was presented to me by the King of Bahrain.

Post-MBA career interests:
In the short term, I see the MBA as a period of training and exploration: a chance to strengthen my technical and managerial toolkit while gaining exposure to new industries, people, and perspectives. In the mid-term, I would like to broaden my international experience by working in innovation consulting or strategic roles within high-growth companies. In the long term, my ambition is clear: I want to become an entrepreneur and create my own venture, ideally in the consumer goods, lifestyle, or sports-related industries. I am driven by a strong entrepreneurial vocation and the desire to build something innovative, meaningful, and impactful. Ultimately, I want a career where I can take responsibility, make decisions, and open new paths.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
My advice for the application process would be to connect with current students and alumni. Understanding their backgrounds, motivations, and experiences with the program can give you a clearer picture of how the MBA is structured and how it might benefit you. These conversations not only help you validate your choice, but also provide practical insights you won’t find on the website.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
If I were to do something differently, I would start my essays much earlier. Reflection takes time, and it’s difficult to capture your true story when you’re rushing. Giving yourself more time allows you to refine your ideas and be more authentic in how you present your journey.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
When I first thought about my post-MBA goals, I felt pressure to follow the paths others expected—consulting or finance—because they seemed safe and prestigious. Over time, I realized that what truly motivates me is pursuing work I am genuinely passionate about. By being honest about my aspirations in the admissions process, I can align my MBA journey with what I truly want to achieve, rather than what I think others expect of me.

What is your initial impression of the Esade students/culture/community?
What impressed me most about Esade students is the diversity of backgrounds and personalities—I’ve met people with very different experiences, yet all open and collaborative. The culture at Esade immediately makes you feel at home; everything feels approachable and inclusive, which is something I deeply value.

What student organizations have you joined/are you hoping to join and why?
I am eager to join the Entrepreneurship Club to deepen my understanding of entrepreneurship and engage in discussions with peers who share similar interests. I am also interested in the Sports Business Club, as the sports industry is an area I am particularly passionate about. Additionally, I would like to participate in Women in Business to contribute to and learn from a community that supports gender diversity and leadership.

What is one thing you have learned about Esade that has surprised you?
What has surprised me most about Esade is the extraordinary level of support the university provides to its students. It’s not just about academics or career services—they genuinely help you explore and understand yourself, your strengths, and your passions. From one-on-one mentoring to workshops and networking opportunities, Esade offers all the resources you need to clarify your professional goals and take concrete steps toward achieving them. What I find particularly valuable is how this support encourages both personal and professional growth, helping students make thoughtful decisions about their future rather than just following a conventional path.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Having lived in my hometown for most of my life, I am especially excited about forming new friendships and connections with people from all over the world. I look forward to learning from their diverse perspectives, sharing experiences, and building a network of peers who challenge and inspire me.
