Muhammad Hassaan Qamar, OSU Fisher’s MBA Class of 2027

Age: 33
Hometown: Lahore, Pakistan
Undergraduate Institution and Major: Mechanical Engineering, National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST)
Pre-MBA Work Experience: Operations, Manufacturing, 7+

Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
I came to business school for a fresh start. Having worked in manufacturing with a background in engineering for several years, I realized that wasn’t what I wanted to do for the rest of my career. I decided to pursue an MBA to build fundamental business skills and transition into more corporate-focused roles.

Why did you choose Ohio State Fisher? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
Location, reputation, and finances were the main factors that helped me decide on The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. I wanted a program that offered the best return on investment, and that’s why I chose OSU.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2027?
I believe my most valuable contribution to the Class of 2027 is my ability to connect with people and make them feel respected and valued.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that didn’t get included on your application:
I’m an athlete, and I love sports, outdoor activities, and traveling. My wife and I have visited more than half of the U.S. states in just over five years since moving here. Our favorite trip has been driving the Pacific Coast Highway—we’ve done it three times!

Post-MBA career interests:
I’m still exploring a couple of career paths, but my top preference is to join the healthcare industry.

Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Connect with the leadership team of the school you are applying to because it really helps you put on the map and people actually notice if you make an extra effort.

–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
Have clarity in your mind what you want to get out of the MBA program. It makes the journey easier. If you’re not entirely sure, that’s fine too, but it helps to have a clear goal.

–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
The video interview. I just don’t like talking to a camera. I will say this, it does get easier the more you practice but sometimes your best response is your first response.

What is your initial impression of the Ohio State Fisher students/culture/community?
I think we have an incredible cohort in the Class of 2027, with people from so many different backgrounds. What stands out most is the inclusivity of the community—and of course, the football culture is amazing.

What student organizations have you joined/are you hoping to join and why?
I love sports, and I was hoping to join a sports club, but I couldn’t find one. Now I’m considering starting one for racquet sports.

What is one thing you have learned about Ohio State Fisher that has surprised you?
I would say the one thing that has surprised me the most is the access to Fisher’s leadership team. I thought the power distance would be greater.

What is one thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Right now, I am most excited about going to my first-ever football game next month. Go Bucks!!
