At the intersection of business, science, and sustainability, the Master of Science in Environment and Sustainability Management (ESM) at Georgetown McDonough offers the kind of leadership development the world needs. As companies and governments grapple with climate change, resource management, and the transition to more sustainable business models, there’s growing demand for professionals who understand both environmental science and how organizations actually operate.

In this special edition of the Clear Admit MBA Admissions Podcast, host Graham Richmond welcomes MS-ESM Program Director Kerrie Carfagno and recent MS-ESM alumna Cecilia Rios to explore what the program looks like, from both the academic and student perspectives.

Dr. Kerrie Carfagno

Dr. Kerrie Carfagno has taught sustainable business and management communication courses with an emphasis on communication strategy, change management, leadership, ethics, and data visualization for more than 19 years. Currently, she is an associate teaching professor with a dual appointment at Georgetown  McDonough and the Earth Commons Institute. She teaches undergraduate students environmental communication and MBA students management communication content, as well as sustainability management in the Latin American Leadership Program.

Cecilia Rios

Cecilia Rios is an Environmental Event Specialist at EMS, where she supports the Community and Environmental Compliance (CEC) programs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). She holds the Master’s ESM degree from Georgetown McDonough and earned her B.A. in Environmental Science from Baylor University, with minors in Earth Science and Business Administration.

In this episode, Dr. Carfagno and Cecilia discuss:

  • What the MS-ESM is designed to do and who it is for
  • The MS-ESM curriculum
  • What the learning experience is like, from working within cohorts to being in the classroom
  • The influence of the program’s Washington, D.C., location
  • How the MS-ESM impacts career plans

…and more!
