The interview was very laid back and conversational.

I met the interviewer, who was a Senior Admissions Officer, in the lobby of a hotel in NYC. From the lobby we took an elevator up to a top floor lobby and made small conversation about the weather in NYC as compared to Texas (It was the first sub 30 degree day of the year in NYC).

We got into the room where the interview would be taking place and within the first 2 minutes cleaning staff came in and began vacuuming which made us both laugh and kind of lightened the mood. He had a copy of my resume already, but I brought extras in case.

From there it was a standard interview format that McCombs outlines in the seminar they post online about what to expect:

– Tell me about yourself (essentially walk me through your resume): I quickly walked him through professional and personal details.
– Why MBA, Why McCombs?
– What companies would you be interesting in working for after graduating?
– What position at those companies would be the best fit?
– Tell me about a piece of feedback you’ve received (positive or negative)
– What is the most challenging/rewarding part of your job?
– Tell me about a creative solution you came up with to a problem
– What is something you learned about yourself during the application process?
– What do you think are the strongest and weakest parts of your application? (This surprised me)
– Is there anything else not in your application you’d like the admission committee to know?
– Any questions for me (I asked 5 and he answered all of them)

And that was it. Very enjoyable interview.
