Dean Milbourn is a nationally recognized scholar in corporate governance, executive compensation, and financial economics. He joined SMU in June 2025 from WashU Olin, where he was the Hubert C. and Dorothy R. Moog Professor of Finance. In his 25 years at Washington University, he recruited leading faculty from top universities, expanded the Ph.D. program, led the rollout of several specialized master’s programs and facilitated the establishment of four new research centers. He previously taught finance at the London Business School and the University of Chicago before joining Washington University.
Now, as Dean of SMU Cox, he is focused on strengthening the school’s academic excellence, deepening its ties to the Texas business ecosystem, and preparing students to lead in an era of rapid technological and economic change.
