anon10646 Likes Earned: 863 Then it's down to your personal risk preferences and your personal fit for the type of MBA experience and program you want. As a diversity candidate, you'll have plenty of IB opportunities from Duke / Fuqua or Cornell / Johnson if you want to take the safer financial route as they're still in the T15 cutoff I'd be seeking for IB currently, and both strong IB placements. Perhaps still a bit of luck for the top top banks and groups, but you'll at least get traction most places you want to pursue and have a floor of good Charlotte office placement or mid-tier NYC banks. Tuck alumni were extremely helpful to me during my IB recruitment despite not going there, but would be hard to argue that over CBS at sticker, unless you want Hanover type environment. If you do I'd think to try and edge ~30-40k in a $ appeal and that then may become middle ground option. If you just want best IB placement and program CBS is the answer. The $ difference could be cleared in a few bonuses if you place at a higher tiered bank and group. Also, I suspect IB recruiting this year will be similar this year to last where competition is high due to Tech and Consulting is still trying to come back in hiring. Diversity will help open a lot of doors in recruiting, but combining with the connections somewhere like CBS will really help as interviews aren't guaranteed. Also assess your learning style and what recruiting structure suits you; if coming from Tech you can probably pick up technicals easy enough, but CBS or Johnson will have more structured processes, while Tuck and Fuqua will be supportive but less regimented. Lastly, consider how wedded you are to the idea of IB as a lot of people drop out of IB recruiting and if you have alternative interests a Fuqua or Johnson $ may be more palatable on non-IB salaries (1)

anon10646 Likes Earned: 863 Not saying you cannot get M&E placement from Ross or Darden, but CBS placement record will open up more Tier1 banks which tend to be stronger in Media & Entertainment and more likely to get placed in those groups for banks which do rank and match placement due to representation of CBS across the street. My preference would be for a Ross or Darden type MBA experience and there is a strong chance you'd be in NYC if placing into IB or corp Media & Entertainment, so it's a chance to live outside of major NE cities for a few years. But flip side is there is only so many people you can be close with in MBA class sizes of 300+ anyways and with Darden or Ross, only some of those classmates will end up in the same city as you post-MBA since those schools are not in major MBA hiring markets, so your closer contacts from MBA may eventually be harder to maintain. CBS may have a less tight-knit community (although IG accounts of people in CBS MBA I've seen, they seem to do decently okay with house party/events and trips), but a decent chunk of them are likely to stay in NYC post-MBA, so it'll be easier to maintain your network. (2)

Having said this, both Ross and Darden are great MBA programs offering large scholarships and they would provide you opportunities to work in NYC as well. Meaning, if IB job placement is your key criteria, then Johnson is a great option. Will apply to HSW R2 just to shoot my shot (though WL from Columbia isn't particularly motivating) but mentally planning on attending UCLA. Hoping to get into digital health/health tech after. Johnson’s tight-knit community, strong track record in IB, and Ithaca’s collegetown environment were key factors in my decision. Receiving a scholarship further reinforced it.

My main advice is to prioritize fit over rankings. Be clear about your goals and choose a program whose culture, outcomes, and structure align with your career objectives.
