Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

Published: March 6, 2019
Image for Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

My Columbia Business School interview was in a coffee shop with an Alumnus that graduated MBA 2018. The atmosphere was relaxed but a bit noisy.

Questions

  1. Why MBA
  2. Why now
  3. What happens if you don’t get into Columbia
  4. Walk me through your resume.
  5. How will I engage with the Columbia community, what clubs I would join.
  6. Challenges I face during work.

Interviewer seemed disengaged and didn’t know much about Columbia’s “recruiting” events for prospective students. Also didn’t know much about the Healthcare program though she was a part of it.

Advice

Read cues and notice when you are oversharing / too enthusiastic and need to back off.

My interviewer had a meeting that ran over and started late. So it felt like we didn’t go through all the questions. It was a standard behavioral interview, nothing surprising or unexpected. – Tell me about yourself. – Why MBA/Why Darden? – What is your leadership style? – Any questions for me? Read more

Had my interview with Michigan Ross. My interviewer was an Alumna and part of the Class of 2014. The interview was mostly behavioral. What did you do? – A couple other behavioral questions (I forgot but were definitely standard questions) Read more

Michigan Ross MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 2 / First-Year Student / Virtual
Interview questions: Tell me about yourself. What are your short-/long-term goals? Why MBA + Why Ross? Tell me about a time dealing with ambiguity. Tell me about a time dealing with failure. How would your enemy describe you in one word? How would you describe your enemy in one word? How would you contribute to the Ross campus? What excites you most about Ann Arbor? My interview was very conversational. Yes, they have to ask you certain questions, but in the flow of conversation, you might end up talking about something unexpected. Read more
