Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

Published: March 6, 2019
Image for Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

My Columbia Business School interview was in a coffee shop with an Alumnus that graduated MBA 2018. The atmosphere was relaxed but a bit noisy.

Questions

  1. Why MBA
  2. Why now
  3. What happens if you don’t get into Columbia
  4. Walk me through your resume.
  5. How will I engage with the Columbia community, what clubs I would join.
  6. Challenges I face during work.

Interviewer seemed disengaged and didn’t know much about Columbia’s “recruiting” events for prospective students. Also didn’t know much about the Healthcare program though she was a part of it.

Advice

Read cues and notice when you are oversharing / too enthusiastic and need to back off.

Penn Wharton MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Second-Year Student / Zoom
The group interview had 7 students, and people were friendly, but a bit aggressive in making sure they had speaking time (which was different compared to the multiple mocks I did). The follow up 1:1 interview was with a 2nd year who asked about what I learned from the group interview, any application updates, what I look forward to doing at Wharton, and about my goals. The 2nd year was quite friendly, and this portion felt very conversational. Read more

HBS MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Adcom / On-Campus
I interviewed on campus for Harvard Business School’s MBA program. There were a number of activities on campus (taking a class, panel of students, etc.), but unfortunately I was working for most of the day and did not get to participate (hoping that doesn’t count against me!). After checking in, was seated in a room with plenty of refreshments (cookies, food, tea, coffee, soda, etc.) before being called upstairs with a group of three other students to sit in a waiting area for a couple minutes. Other students were clearly as nervous as I was, but we chatted and they Read more

UPenn Wharton MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Second-Year Students / Zoom
I applied to Wharton Round 1 and was invited to do a Zoom TBD with other applicants – we had two second-year students reviewing our session and doing the individual portions. Our TBD group was pretty on-top of it, except our presentation ended about a minute and a half early, which we couldn’t do much about. This year’s prompt was about Leadership Initiative ventures, and our group had a bunch of really creative ideas. All in all, the experience took a full hour and forty minutes, including waiting for my turn for the 1 on 1 portion. As for the Read more
