Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

Published: March 6, 2019
Image for Columbia Business School MBA Interview Questions & Report: J-Term / Alumnus / Off-campus

My Columbia Business School interview was in a coffee shop with an Alumnus that graduated MBA 2018. The atmosphere was relaxed but a bit noisy.

Questions

  1. Why MBA
  2. Why now
  3. What happens if you don’t get into Columbia
  4. Walk me through your resume.
  5. How will I engage with the Columbia community, what clubs I would join.
  6. Challenges I face during work.

Interviewer seemed disengaged and didn’t know much about Columbia’s “recruiting” events for prospective students. Also didn’t know much about the Healthcare program though she was a part of it.

Advice

Read cues and notice when you are oversharing / too enthusiastic and need to back off.

INSEAD MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Alumnus / Off-Campus
R1 alum interview, off-campus in-person, ran about an hour. Very conversational and felt more like a chat than an evaluation. It was resume-based, and felt that he clearly read mine. Opened with Tell me about yourself, then moved through Why MBA/Why Now, Why INSEAD, short- and long-term goals, strengths/weaknesses, and what I’d contribute to the class. Two behavioral questions: Tell me about a time I had to face failure and asked me to share an instance in which I lead a team/tough situations. What surprised most was the question about why I was applying from Vietnam as an Indian national. Read more

Texas McCombs MBA Peer Interview Questions & Report: Round 2 / Second-Year Student / Zoom
The interview was totally on the side of the 2nd-year student. For instance, in my interview the interviewer started mentioning that she had not even read my CV, so she asks me to introduce myself briefly. Then, she hits with typical questions of “Why McCombs?” And “Why an MBA?” After answering those, she had nothing else prepared, so she put it on my side again: “There are still about 20 minutes, feel free to ask me whatever you want. Otherwise, we can leave it at this point now.” I continued asking questions about her profile and MBA journey, and I Read more
