Harvard MBA Admissions Interview Questions

Originally shared by MBA Jackass

Interview: March 8th, 2006

Despite the somewhat anxious build-up, my Harvard interview turned out to be down right pleasant, and even included unforced bursts of laughter from time to time. My interviewer – who had read my application several times already – was friendly and fair, and while the interview questions – drawing from my entire application – were more challenging than a “blind” interview, I feel like I held my own and really took advantage of this last opportunity to tell my story and advocate for myself.

The interview began with a quick overview of the approach, followed by a wide variety of granular questions:

  1. What is your company?
  2. What does a typical day look like for you?
  3. In one of your essays, you spoke about weakness X – how will you overcome it?
  4. Talk about a conflict at work and how you handled it?
  5. Are you sure that a general management curriculum matches up with your future plans and if so why?
  6. Specific questions about my intended course of study, future career plans and current career.

My pre-interview walking tour of the HBS campus really hammered home the impressiveness of the facilities here. The gym, the library, the student center, the classrooms are all far and away the best I have seen, almost as if to say, “Why the hell would you go somewhere else if you could go here?”
