INSEAD MBA Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Alumni / Off-Campus

I interviewed with both alumni in person given we happened to be in the same city at the time. We met at a coffee shop, both were very casual and friendly. We were required to send in the application and resume to the interviewers ahead of time.

The questions are mainly about my career and motivation to pursue and MBA:

1. I read your application, but want you to tell me about yourself again.
2. Why MBA and what are your short-/long-term goals?
3. Why INSEAD?
4. Tell me more about your current role: You switched industry – how did you adapt to the switch? What are the transferrable skills from your previous role that you carry to your current one?
5. MBA is costly – what if I can give you the network you need via an introduction – would you still choose to go for an MBA?
6. Which other schools did you apply to? (this is a mandatory question, but will not influence adcom’s final decision).
7. Any questions for me?

I was surprised that there were no specific behavioral questions (I presume it’s because I weaved in some stories as I answered questions). I spent around 1 hour on both interviews, with 20 minutes of them questioning, and the remaining 30-40 minutes just me asking questions about their experience at INSEAD and the industry they are in.

One of the interviewer remarked that they usually want to check whether the candidates have experience working and collaborating with a diverse group of people (as my experience shows that, and I briefly mentioned in some of my answers, they did not probe further).
