MIT Sloan School of Management Announces New Scholarship for Technology-Focused MBAs

MIT Sloan School of Management and London-based global telecommunications company Zamir Telecom last week announced a new scholarship program for promising MBA students planning to pursue careers in the technology sector.

The new Zamir Telecom fellowship is open to students from emerging economies in Africa, Asia or the Middle East, as well as to students interested in technological advancements in those regions.

Naufal Zamir, a native of Bangladesh, was trained as a lawyer before launching Zamir Telecom company 10 years ago. Today, the company is among the fast-growing businesses in the United Kingdom, according to The Sunday Times Tech Track 100. Zamir’s gift of $100,000 established the new MIT fellowship.

“Naufal Zamir knows firsthand the transformative power of education,” MIT Sloan Dean David Schmittlein said in a statement. “Thanks to his gift, MIT Sloan will be able to expand its reach to students in emerging countries and provide them with opportunities they otherwise might not have had.”

Zamir hopes the new scholarship will provide a means of giving back to and investing in capable young people in the developing world. “There is a lot of raw talent out there,” he said in a statement. “Our hope is that by giving these people the opportunity to come and study at MIT Sloan—thereby providing them with academic rigor and a chance to engage with world-renowned experts—we will help unleash their potential.”

In addition to the scholarship, Zamir Telecom will also provide two MIT Sloan students with paid internships and a one-year employment contract after graduation.
