Thanks to a recently announced partnership, the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management will be able to offer new initiatives for students and faculty in the area of financial innovation. The new Rotman Financial Innovation Hub in Advanced Analytics (Rotman FinHub) will encourage research in financial innovation as well as support unique learning opportunities for students in the MBA, Master of Finance, and Master of Financial Risk Management programs.

The Rotman FinHub will offer students new classes on topics such as machine learning and blockchain, scholarship opportunities, career help, and support from external financial, economic, and technology organizations. For faculty, the Rotman FinHub will provide additional research opportunities and access to the latest database and analytical tools, as well as engagement opportunities through conferences and symposiums.

Of the new Rotman FinHub, Capital Markets Professor Peter Christoffersen said in a press release: “Given the radical changes currently affecting the finance sector, we believe that our Rotman FinHub initiative will enhance the Rotman School’s leadership position in financial management teaching and research. It will also help us attract the best researchers as well as students who are interested in studying financial innovation.”

The creation of the Rotman FinHub was made possible thanks to a $1 million donation by the TD Bank Group as well as a $1.3 million contribution from the Rotman Catalyst Fund, a venture fund that provides seed capital for bold innovations and initiatives at the Rotman School. The Global Risk Institute in Financial Services also contributed $150,000 in support.

Of the new partnership, the TD Bank Group said: “Toronto’s FinTech ecosystem is among the best in the world, and Rotman and the University of Toronto are leading financial educators—we think that’s a powerful combination. We are in this for the long term, and I’m personally very excited about where we’re headed and the partnerships, talent, and innovations that are going to get us there.”
