Age: 29
Hometown: Sewickley, PA
Undergraduate Institution and Major: United States Military Academy
Pre-MBA Work Experience (years, industry): Served in the U.S. Army for 7 years.

Why business school? Why now?
I accomplished everything I wanted to in the military and was ready to transition to the business sector. I became really interested in Marketing through my last job in the Army and knew to have a successful transition from the military to the business community I needed an MBA.

Why Tepper? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend? When I visited Tepper it really felt right. I was drawn to Tepper not only because of its reputation but because it was one of the smallest MBA programs in the county. I loved the idea that I would be able to know all my classmates and be part of a close-knit community.

What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the Class of 2020? I am the only female veteran at Tepper, so I think my experiences in the Army, where I served as a leader in a male dominated profession, will add value to my class.

Fun fact that didn’t get included on your application?
My husband, Bill, is also getting his MBA at Tepper. We are the only married couple in the class of 2020. Our daughter tends to make an appearance on Friday socials!

Post-MBA career interests?
Brand Management at a CPG firm.

Advice to current prospective applicants:
–One thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
Take the time and the spend the money to visit your perspective schools! You learn so much about the culture of an MBA program by experiencing it firsthand.

–One thing you would change or do differently?
Before school begins, figure out what industry you want to work in and don’t be afraid to reach out to current students for their advice.

–Part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
I would skip taking the GMAT/GRE of course, wouldn’t we all? The part that helped me get through the months of studying was reminding myself of my end goal. I knew an MBA was an absolute must for me so keeping my eye on the prize was key. I also took a ton of practice tests that helped boost my confidence before taking the actual exam. Oh and coffee, lots of coffee!

What is your initial impression of Tepper’s students/culture/community?
Very close-knit group of students. We are a small program, which I love, so everyday I recognize more faces and know most of the names of my classmates. The value of knowing your classmates means building more genuine relationships which is a big part of business school.

One thing you have learned about Tepper that has surprised you?
We have a lot of awesome clubs! I did not realize how many opportunities Tepper provides to step outside your comfort zone and meet new people.

Thing you are most anxious about in your first year?
To secure an internship at a firm that I am passionate about.

Thing you are most excited about in your first year?
Getting through Mini 1 and Mini 2! I’m currently taking five classes so I’m excited to get through this semester and spend more time with my classmates.
