Duke Fuqua Interview Questions & Report: Round 1 / Student / Zoom

Student only had a copy of my resume and in general it was a relaxed atmosphere. Their Zoom connection was bad and they kept buffering as we were talking, but we got through the interview alright. Overall, I thought it was good, she didn’t give any indication one way or the other, but hoping it went well. Only two surprise questions as outlined below, pretty common straightforward questions otherwise. Wrote down as many as I could remember:

  1. What is DQ and how would you define qualities of DQ? – They had to define this for me as “decency quotient” and it is pretty much a framework for how you run your life and your business. Never heard of it before now so kind of a curveball. I said things like taking ownership for mistakes, making sure people around you have time off to re-charge, letting everyone on the team contribute, etc. Basically asking how you define what makes a good person.
  2. What is trust and how important is trust in our society? – I can’t remember the exact wording, but this was an abstract curveball question.
  3. One strength and one weakness?
  4. What does Team Fuqua mean to you?
  5. Four words you would use to describe your personal communication style?
  6. How would you contribute to the Fuqua community?
  7. Tell me about a time you had to give negative feedback to an employee.
  8. Tell me about a leadership experience you had and something you could improve on.
  9. Post-MBA goals?
  10. Why Fuqua?
