Why did you make the decision to attend business school? Why now?
With a background in Human Resource Management and Psychology, I wanted to build a stronger foundation in business strategy and decision-making. The MMS program felt like the perfect next step to connect what I’ve learned about people and leadership with a broader understanding of how organizations operate. At this stage, I’m ready to challenge myself, grow as a leader, and take advantage of the mentorship, resources, and network that will set me up for long-term success.
Why did you choose Duke Fuqua? What factors figured most prominently into your decision of where to attend?
I was drawn to Fuqua’s strong sense of community and its “Team Fuqua” culture, where collaboration and shared success are valued just as much as individual achievement. I also appreciated how hands-on the learning experience is, from team-based projects and real-world business insights. Beyond academics, the support and energy of the Fuqua network really stood out to me. It’s clear that people here look out for one another, and that’s exactly the kind of environment I want to learn and grow in.
What do you think is your most valuable or differentiating contribution to the class?
As a Division I track and cross-country athlete, I’ve learned how to balance demanding schedules, push through challenges, and lead with resilience. Competing at a high level taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to perform under pressure, all qualities I bring to group environments. Alongside athletics, I’ve been involved in volunteer work and student leadership organizations, which strengthened my ability to connect with people from different backgrounds. I’m excited to contribute to a perspective that blends competitiveness with collaboration and empathy.

Post-MMS career interests:
After the MMS program, I hope to begin my career in Organizational Development, where I can combine my background in Human Resource Management and Psychology to help companies strengthen their culture and develop their people. I’m passionate about understanding what motivates individuals and how teams work best together. Long-term, I aspire to design and lead initiatives that drive employee engagement, leadership development, and positive organizational change. I hope to create workplaces where people feel valued and motivated to do their best work.
Advice for Current Prospective Applicants:
–What is one thing you would absolutely do again as part of your application process?
I would spend time reflecting on what drives me personally and what experiences have shaped me. Being honest about my motivations and challenges helped my essays and interviews feel authentic, and it allowed my personality and values to come through in a way that felt true to who I am. This reflection also gave me clarity on why I wanted to pursue business school and how I could contribute to the Fuqua community.
–What is one thing you would change or do differently?
I would start networking with current students and alumni earlier in the process. The conversations I had were incredibly helpful in understanding the culture and confirming that Fuqua was the right fit, and starting sooner would have given me even more perspective.
–What is one part you would have skipped if you could—and what helped you get through it?
The hardest part was definitely the waiting period after submitting my application. I got through it by staying busy with school, athletics, and other commitments, which kept me grounded, and by reminding myself that I had done everything I could to put my best foot forward.
What is your initial impression of the Duke Fuqua students/culture/community?
Fuqua feels like a community where dedication and empathy go hand in hand. Students work hard and push themselves to reach their goals, but they also genuinely support one another and take the time to build connections. Whether it’s through team projects, class discussions, or casual conversations, people are open to sharing their experiences and helping each other grow. It’s clear that success here isn’t just about individual achievements; it’s also about how you contribute to the community around you.
What is one thing you have learned about Duke Fuqua that has surprised you?
I was surprised by how tight-knit the Fuqua network is, not just among current students but also alumni. I’ve already seen how eager people are to connect, share advice, and open doors for others. It really lives up to the reputation of being a lifelong community.
