The interview was fairly well structured with the interviewer clearly reading the questions off of a prescribed list of questions. Nothing particularly surprising. There was just one probe and one question that I hadn’t seen in older Yale SOM debriefs. The interviewer was an alumnus from the Class of 2022 and seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say and was fairly conversational once the questions were done.
Q1. What professional achievement are you most proud of and why?
Q2. Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a disagreement in the workplace. How did you deal with it? (Probe: If you had the same experience now, what would you change looking back?)
Q3. Why MBA? How have you prepared yourself for an MBA?
Q4. While devising to apply to B-schools this year, you would definitely have talked to some current MBA students or graduates. What is the one thing that stood out to you in those conversations?
Q5. How will you contribute to the Yale SOM community?
Q6. The quote you submitted, why is that meaningful to you?
Q7. Anything else you want to add that hasn’t been covered?
Q8. Questions for me?
We finished the main questions of the interview in about 20 minutes. Then we spent the last 10 mins just chatting about SOM. The interviewer was quite friendly and was happy to keep going beyond the 30 minutes if I had more questions.
My interview started some 45 minutes earlier than the prescribed time because I joined the link to check my devices and internet connections and the interviewer was also already on the link. So we both just agreed to start early. I think that really helped keep things a bit less rigid.
