Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business has officially launched its first cohort of the Golub Capital Board Fellows Program. The program places 13 MBA students on the boards of nonprofit organizations throughout the Pittsburgh region, where they serve as non-voting members.

First-year students make up the Golub Capital Board Fellows’ first cohort. Each student was selected based on their dedication to social impact, their desire to apply business skills in service of the community, and their leadership potential.

The program matches each fellow one-on-one with a nonprofit organization. Here, they will engage with, participate in, and contribute to strategic decision-making and high-impact projects.

Isabelle Bajeux, Dean and Richard P. Simmons Professor of Finance at Tepper, explained that these students “exemplify the type of principled, forward-thinking leaders we strive to develop.” She described the students as understanding “that business leadership must be grounded in a deep sense of purpose and responsibility.” This opportunity will “provide them critical boardroom experience while contributing meaningfully to nonprofit community organizations.”

Nonprofit Partners

Through the the 2024-25 Golub Capital Board Fellows Program, the Tepper School will partner with nonprofit organizations. These organizations include:

Rebecca Joyce, Executive Director of the Accelerate Leadership Center, described the launch of the program as “more than a professional learning opportunity.” She went on to say that it was “a platform for students to make a tangible difference in Pittsburgh’s nonprofit sector” and that the school is “grateful to our nonprofit partners for opening their boardrooms to the next generation of socially-conscious business leaders.”

Tepper’s 2024-2025 cohort will join the Golub Capital Nonprofit Board Fellows Network. This prestigious network comprises six other top-tier business schools: Berkeley Haas, Chicago Booth, Northwestern Kellogg, NYU Stern, Pennsylvania Wharton and Yale SOM. Golub Capital supports each school to facilitate student development via Board Fellows Programs and to prepare future nonprofit board members to achieve greater impact.

At Tepper, the Accelerate Leadership Center manages the program. The Center supports student leadership development through coaching and experiential learning.
